i first came across Nick Cave's work at YBCA a few years ago, for his show titled Meet Me at the Center of the Earth. utterly amazing. meticulously constructed "sound suits" created from thrift store ephemera, fur, and sequins. larger-than-life figures looming, making the dancer inside imposing, yet playful. magic. you can see them "move," even when they are static. i have not been lucky to see one of his performances, but i know they're just as magical.
